All the important questions and answers about VCM

General

If you're interested in entrepreneurship, you love to chat. About today's problems, tomorrow's ideas, and sometimes just everyday stuff. The main thing is to get together with like‑minded people, with folks who are into startups. Learn more »

We inspire and empower students for entrepreneurship. We do this through a variety of founding-related projects. These include lecture series, workshops, and founding programs. In addition, we leverage our contacts in the Münster startup ecosystem to connect students and founders. Of course, the association’s internal socials and international startup tours also play a key role in actively driving club life forward.

The VCM is divided into five areas. These include the Board and its subordinate teams, the Advisory Board, the alumni, and founders.

Board

In addition to the Chair of the Board, we differentiate between the following teams: Sponsoring & Relations, People, Finance, IT, and Marketing. Here our members can apply their individual strengths and drive projects independently.

Teams

We offer a total of six teams with a variety of functions. There, every member can contribute according to their interests and personal strengths. To see which teams exist and what tasks they perform, read under Get Involved.

Alumni

If you no longer have time to be an active member, you can re‑register as alumni at the end of the semester. While your active participation in club affairs will end, you will still benefit from many exciting events and the community.

Founder

As a founder, we give you the chance to gain a foothold in the startup scene with the help of our community and to expand your entrepreneurship‑specific knowledge through various events. In return, you share your expertise at events, for example through pitches or workshops.

Advisory Board

The three‑person Advisory Board, composed of former members, serves as an advisor to the Board. This includes not only questions about club affairs but also support with strategy and finance.

Among the most important public events are the Climate Hack and Startup Contacts. In addition, we also organize internal club events, including the weekly Jour Fixes. We also host the mandatory new member event, startup tours to the key startup hubs, workshops, and various socials. All VCM Events »

Yes. At VCM there are public and internal events. Public events, such as the Climate Hack or Female Founders Friday, are also offered to non‑members. Internal events, such as workshops or socials, are exclusively for our members. All VCM Events »

At the start of each semester, we welcome new members into the club. After a successful application to a team and a meet‑and‑greet, we’re excited to have you join VCM!

We offer founders access to our community in the Münster startup ecosystem. Here, we're happy to help you find co‑founders, incubators, and mentors. In addition, our events give you broad access to startup‑specific know‑how and expert insight. We also give you the chance to receive innovative suggestions and constructive feedback on your startup idea. Apply as a founder » (opens in a new tab)

We’re an innovative association, and that shows not only in all the formats we offer but also in our logo. For an association—and especially for startups—the people involved are incredibly important. This exchange and dialogue with founders, mentors, partners, etc., is represented by the “Zickzack.” In addition, the logo resembles a DNA strand. That symbolizes our startup mentality and shows that sharing entrepreneurship‑specific knowledge and the resulting networking isn’t just our passion—it’s in our DNA.

Membership

No. You don’t need to have a startup idea to become a member. After all, our motto is: “Inspire and empower entrepreneurship!”

No. VCM is the right place to go for anyone interested in entrepreneurship and startups, and you don’t have to be a founder. But if you’ve already founded something or are thinking about starting one, we’re happy to support you and have our community by your side.

No. While we’re a student initiative, you don’t have to be a student to join. We welcome members from all backgrounds – even those outside the university.

First and foremost, you should simply have an interest in the topic founding and Startups as well. Additionally, you’ll need to set aside some time each week for the Jour Fixe and the independent work in your team. We don’t require any specific experience; what matters more is your interest and active engagement that you want to bring to us.

First of all, you’re under no obligation. However, you should be aware that our members regularly get actively involved in club activities. This gives you the advantage of being able to launch new projects while expanding your know-how. All of this is only possible if you bring the same level of commitment, responsibility, and passion to the club.

Our weekly Jour Fixe takes place on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. Updates and general information about club activities are shared, and then we continue working in the individual teams.

We mainly offer three types of membership: active member, alumni, or founder. You start with us as an active member or founder. After each semester, you have the option to confirm, change, or end your membership type during the semester registration.

Club work

Currently, there are the following teams: Marketing, Finance & Law, People & Culture, IT, Events, and Sponsoring & Relations.

The tasks vary widely depending on the team.

Marketing focuses on optimal communication and external representation of the association through social media and offline marketing.

The Sponsoring & Relations team negotiates sponsorships for members and events and maintains contact with other initiatives and partners.

Finance planning handles cash audits, the management of membership fees, and other accounting matters.

The People & Culture team nurtures the member community by organizing events such as socials, the Startup Tour, or new‑member gatherings.

The IT team deals with various tech issues, especially our website and overall IT administration.

The Event team is responsible for organizing smaller external events, such as Female Founders Friday or Failure Night.

All teams work closely together, ensuring a dynamic association structure.

During the semester you can plan 2 to 4 hours per week. That includes about one hour for our weekly Jour Fixe and 1 to 3 hours for tasks in your team. However, this can ultimately vary depending on the team and the point in the semester.

In your application, you indicate preferences for which team you’d like to support. We’ll do our best to accommodate your wish.

Yes, that’s basically possible. At the start of each semester, you indicate in the semester feedback which team you’d like to get involved with in the future. By specifying your desired team, a straightforward switch is possible. If you want to switch later in the semester, you’ll work together with the Board to find the best alternative for you.

That's not a problem! Unforeseen periods can always arise when your workload is higher due to other commitments. What's most important here is communicating with your Board so that the tasks can be taken over by other team members.
